Not to be missed

Six experiences,
one landscape

Rhonequelle is a privileged starting point for exploring the upper Goms valley. We selected authentic places within reach of Oberwald that truly reveal this part of Valais.

01 Summer
Glacier · Furka

The source of the Rhône and the ice grotto

At Belvédère, just below the Furka Pass, the Rhône begins at its glacier. A panoramic platform and a tunnel carved anew into the ice each year bring you close to an ever-changing Alpine landscape.

02 Summer
Railway heritage

Furka steam railway

Historic locomotives travel some 18 kilometres between Oberwald, Gletsch and Realp through gorges, steep slopes and high-Alpine scenery. A slow journey that is a destination in itself.

03 Summer
Alpine hiking

Four Headwaters Trail

Stage five links Obergesteln, Oberwald and Gletsch with the Furka Pass and a viewpoint over the Rhône Glacier. It is a demanding Alpine route rich in history and expansive views.

04 Winter
Nordic skiing

The great Goms trail

More than 100 kilometres of groomed classic and skating trails cross the valley from Oberwald to Niederwald. There are routes for newcomers and athletes, with the train conveniently connecting the villages.

05 Winter
Snow and silence

Winter trails and snowshoes

Goms offers around 69 kilometres of marked winter paths, from forest routes to gentle walks beside the young Rhône. Snowshoe trails lead deeper into snowy woods and quiet clearings.

06 Summer
Scenic roads

Furka, Grimsel and Nufenen

Three legendary passes create spectacular itineraries for cars, motorcycles and road bikes. Climb from the valley towards lakes, granite walls and hairpins that shaped the history of Alpine travel.
